BUENOS AIRES, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Renzo Tesuri scored in the first-half as Atletico Tucuman overcame River Plate 1-0 on the penultimate day of Argentina's Apertura regular season on Sunday.
Tesuri gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute by side-footing home from the edge of the six-yard box after Maximiliano Villa's cross.
The hosts controlled 76% of the possession and had five shots on target but could not find a way past goalkeeper Luis Ingolotti.
Despite the result, River Plate is assured of finishing second in the Group B standings, having taken 29 points from 16 games, five fewer than leader Independiente Rivadavia.
Atletico Tucuman missed a playoff spot, managing just three wins to finish 13th in the group.
"It is important to close out the championship this way, things had not been going our way for a long time but this gives us something to build upon," Atletico defender Clever Ferreira said.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Sunday, Belgrano cruised to a 4-0 home win over Sarmiento, Racing was held to a goalless home draw by Huracan, Gimnasia La Plata won 2-0 at home to Argentinos Juniors, Tigre drew 1-1 at Rosario Central and Aldosivi drew 1-1 at home to Independiente Rivadavia. ■
