HANOI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- One person died and five others were hospitalized after consuming soup made with wild mushrooms in Vietnam's northern Son La province, local media VnExpress reported Thursday.
According to the report, a family meal in Na Hien village on May 2 was attended by 24 people, six of whom later ate soup cooked with mushrooms collected from the forest.
By around 8 p.m. the same day, the group developed symptoms including abdominal pain, repeated vomiting and diarrhea.
One woman died after her condition worsened on May 4.
Four of the five surviving patients are receiving intensive care in the capital Hanoi, the report said.
Health officials suspect the poisoning may have been caused by deadly white mushrooms containing amatoxin, a highly toxic substance that is not destroyed by cooking. ■
