NEW DELHI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- At least three people died and three others went missing after the boat they were commuting in capsized in a river in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, local police said on Thursday.

The boat capsized in the River Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Wednesday evening.

According to the local police, there were nine people onboard the ill-fated boat, including the boatman, when it overturned in the river amid rains. Three people were rescued.

A search operation was being carried out to find those missing, added the police. ■
