BANGKOK, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI) approved six major projects worth a combined 958 billion baht (about 29 billion U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.
The wave of approvals is led by a massive data infrastructure expansion by TikTok, underscoring the country's strategic push to become a regional hub for digital infrastructure and cloud services, the BOI said in a statement.
According to the BOI, the largest investment by a local unit of TikTok, valued at 842 billion baht (around 25 billion dollars), will install additional servers and expand data processing infrastructure across Bangkok, alongside Samut Prakan and Chachoengsao provinces.
Beyond infrastructure, the company also committed to developing e-commerce and digital literacy curricula to help Thai entrepreneurs create new business opportunities and strengthen the Southeast Asian nation's digital workforce, the BOI said. ■
